Sledding and tobogganing in the Dolomites
|
back |

Local people as well as visitors love to practice this
amusing alternative to skiing. You will have lots of
fun on one of the countless Toboggan runs in South Tyrol. Not only
children get excited when they speed down to the valley!
Sledding and tobogganing are sports with a long tradition in
South Tyrol and have become very popular winter sports.
Most ski resorts
in the Dolomites feature toboggan runs and sledding
enthusiasts can reach them by cable car or ski lift. For little money,
sledges can be rented at ski-rentals and at the
valley station of ski lifts. Entire days can be spent going up
and down the mountain with your sledge. In places like the Croda Rossa
in Sesto, at the Baranci in San Candido, at the Lothener Köpfl in Falzes,
at the Latemar and many other locations it is also possible to go
sledding at night time on illuminated runs.
“Moon sledding” is also a very popular activity in South Tyrol.
At full moon, the locals and their guests walk up to a mountain pasture
to have a traditional evening meal at one of the huts, and afterwards
they sled down to the valley on runs which are usually
a few kilometres long. You must try it yourself!
Sledding and tobogganing in the Dolomites is a lot of fun and a very
sociable activity.
