Alta Pusteria in the Dolomites
|
back |

Embedded in the unique mountain range of the Dolomites are the five main
villages of the so called “Tre cime di Lavaredo” region, in the Eastern
part of South Tyrol: Sesto, San Candido, Dobbiaco, Villabassa and Braies.
The Alta Pusteria is a place to holiday for everyone: families,
adventurers, sportive and culturally aware people. But also those who
just want to find a place to relax will be overwhelmed by the beauty and nativeness of this holiday region. Furthermore there are a lot of
cultural, sportive and leisure activities on offer in the Alta Pusteria
valley; in summer as well as in winter.
They include: climbing and
hiking tours, biking, trekking,
mountain biking, tennis, golf, but also
romantic excursions on a horse-drawn carriage. Summers in the Alta Pusteria valley are wonderful, and so are the winters in this land of
the “Tre Cime di Lavaredo”. Ski areas, which are situated around the
five main villages, offer challenging ski tours and steep downhill runs
as well as easier slopes and pistes for beginners. Cross-country skiers
can expect a paradise of over 200 km’s of ski runs. Special features of
this holiday region are: the natural preserve Fanes Sennes Prags with
its remarkable natural formations and the natural park “Dolomiti di
Sesto” of the size of 16.650 ha. It covers the municipalities of San Candido, Sesto and Dobbiaco.
Another very popular destination is the
wildlife park in Dobbiaco, where you have the opportunity to see and
observe typical native animals as well as rare species like lynxes and
racoons. Very beautiful and definitely worth the trip is the lake of
Dobbiaco. It is 600 m long and 400 m wide, located at the entrance of
the unique Landro valley. |
