Awe-inspiring rock formations and mighty peaks, a breathtaking and
beautiful landscape and a long and impressive list of museums to visit;
welcome to the holiday region East Tyrol! Not far from the famous
South
Tyrolean Dolomites, in the South East of Austria, lies a picturesque
region with its capital city Lienz, right on the border to Italy. Amidst
a fascinating landscape, surrounded by rolling hills and majestic
mountain ranges, this place has wonderful things to offer to its guests,
summer and winter alike. Visitors can experience a fun vacation all year
round. With a size of 1.800 km², the natural park Hohe Tauern is the
biggest of the 6 Austrian natural parks. Cristal clear mountain lakes,
fragrant herbs and colourful flowers, green grasslands and some
four-legged terrestrials assure exciting and instructional time for the
whole family – one-day guided tours and trekking trips, nature trails as
well as an adequate children and youth programme make your sojourn in
the natural park Hohe Tauern a perfect one. Those – equipped with
supplies and sturdy shoes - that are attracted by the high mountains,
have made a good choice to come to East Tyrol, as the Dolomites are only
a stone’s throw from here. Here, in the middle of the highest peaks of
Austria, hiking and climbing is a real pleasure. Children and adults
alike can take a stroll or go on an extensive hiking tour, do
adventurous alpine climbs or go on a venturous fixed rope route.
Passionate mountaineers will get sparkling eyes. The outstanding Großglockner mountain can be found at the border to Kärnten. With a
height of 3.798 metres it is the country’s highest mountain. Visitors
who come to this region in winter will also be absolutely thrilled. When
the temperatures drop and the region gleams in a stunning white, the
time for ski tours, cross-country skiing,
alpine skiing and snowboarding
has arrived. Top-quality cross-country ski runs, and downhill slopes for
different levels assure an unforgettable time for the advanced but also
for less experienced winter enthusiasts. Last but not least, also
friends of the toboggan will have a lot of fun on one of the numerous
toboggan runs in a magical winterly East Tyrol.
