Val Gardena in the Dolomites
|
back |

The amazingly beautiful Val Gardena lies in the centre of the
fantastic and impressive world of the Dolomites. With its main
destinations, Ortisei, Selva Gardena and S. Christina, the
Val Gardena offers a diverse and attractive holiday programme for every
season.
During the summer months you will be impressed by the marvellous
Dolomites mountain range and its picturesque mountain pastures,
colourful grasslands and romantic mountain lakes, which enchant
enthusiastic hikers and mountaineers; but also during the winter months
a wide range of different activities are on offer.
With its modern ski lifts, 175 km of optimally groomed slopes and
cross-country ski runs of a total length of 98 km, the Val Gardena is
one of the most popular and biggest ski areas in the entire region of
the Alps.
Two World Cup races which regularly take place in December are the
height of the ski season: the Super G and the men’s downhill on the
notorious Saslong slope. World Cups have been taking place here since
1969, and each year a large number of fans flock to the Val Gardena
to be on site when their favourite skiers fight for sub seconds.
The Val Gardena’s popularity as a holiday region is not only due to
its reputation as a winter sport region and for its unspoilt nature, but
also because of its tradition of handicraft and woodcarving, which
evolved in the Val Gardena at the beginning of the 17th century.
Besides the possibility to admire sacral wooden sculptures, small
sculptures for nativity mangers or animal sculptures, it is also
possible to buy one or two at one of the local woodcraft shops. |
