The municipality of Badia / Abtei with all its beautiful parts, is located at an altitude of about 1,315 m in the heart of the Dolomites and has about 2,700 inhabitants. As part of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags nature park and Puez-Geisler park, Badia in Italy is recognised as a unique hiking paradise. Ideal for nature lovers and those who simply want to escape the dullness of everyday life and a hectic and stressful world. 

Even in winter, Abtei, in the midst of the wonderful Dolomites, has a lot to offer. The area is especially popular with skiers and snowboarders, as a base from which to enjoy the slopes and modern lifts of the "Sella Ronda". For those who do not want to ski, the winter landscape can be enjoyed on foot, or by toboggan or cross-country skiing.

Cultural attractions in Abtei / Badia

A destination of particular interest is the nearby hamlet and pilgrimage site of Oies. There you can find the house where missionary Joseph Freinademetz was born in 1852, who later died of typhoid in China in 1908. Father Freinademetz was canonized by Pope John Paul II. The many pilgrims that visit can offer prayers to St. Joseph Freinademetz in the house. No less popular in Badia in Italy is a trip to the pilgrimage church of Heiligkreuz at the foot of the Heiligkreuzkofel, which dates back to the year 1000.
