Culture enthusiasts are strongly recommended to visit Bruneck Castle, which is towering above Rienzstadt. One of the MMMs – Messner Mountain Museums – is situated in the castle, a second one is on the summit of the hiking and skiing mountain Kronplatz.

Here, all around Brunico in Italy, you can go on leisurely hikes, enjoy the surroundings, and you can also go mountain-biking. For the more daring, the Herrensteig, one of the three freeride trails in the Kronplatz area, can be recommended.

The ski area Kronplatz also bears the title of ski mountain no. 1 and not without reason. The diverse map of the slopes offers something suitable for everyone, whether you are a novice or advanced.
Incidentally: At the summit of the Kronplatz you can marvel at the Bell Concordia 2000.

Bruneck Castle

As early as 1271, Bruneck Castle is initially called Castrum Bruneke. It was not until one hundred years later, when the first structural changes were made to the castle, the most noticeable is the reinforcement of the keep and its coverage with a pointed roof – under the direction of Bishop Ulrich Putsch.
The changes at Bruneck Castle were always initiated by episcopal principals, in particular also in the 17th century under Bishop Christoph von Schrofenstein and later under Bishof Wilhelm von Welsperg. Since 2011, Bruneck Castle houses one of the Messner Mountain Museums : the MMM Ripa, which is dedicated to the most diverse mountain people in the world.
