Nova Ponente - Church

The pilgrimage site of Maria Weißenstein

One of the most famous pilgrimage sites and revered places of worship in South Tyrol: Maria Weißenstein in Deutschnofen. The first chapel dates back to 1553. The figure of the Blessed Mother of God with her dead son in her lap is beautiful. The high altar, frescoes on the vault of Adam Mölk, side altars, and the small chapel next to the church, dedicated to St. Peregrin Laziosi, the patron saint of cancer patients, are all well worth seeing. On July 17, 1988, Pope John Paul II visited the monastery of Maria Weissenstein and celebrated mass with thousands of the faithful.
